Essix appliance

A tooth-supported, temporary denture worn by patients during healing stages of treatment, and while waiting for permanent replacement teeth to be made in a laboratory. Essix appliances are made of thin, flexible, clear plastic "trays" that slip on over the patient's existing teeth (like bleach trays), and have tooth-colored replacements for the missing teeth built into them. They are not durable enough to be long lasting, and tend to stain easily. Essix appliances are removable by the patient for tissue rest and cleaning.
