Establishing this diagnosis

Establishing a diagnosis involves examination, review of medical and dental history, clinical data analysis, and tests that are specific to your condition. Only a dentist can evaluate your signs and symptoms to establish a diagnosis.

Tooth enamel is extremely durable, and wears very little under normal function. Multiple chips or craze lines in teeth demonstrates repeated (habitual) heavy blows consistent with factitious habits. Fractures are usually reported by patients according to the cause. Soft tissue injuries caused by factitious habits are usually reported by the patient or patient's parent/guardian as to the origin of the injury.
